Most kittens are shy around people when they are very young. The mother cat teaches her kittens to be wary of strange things in order to protect them.
To change a shy kitten to a loving one, use gental touches, do not suddenly pick the kitten up, use a soft gently voice and hold the kitten often.
It may take a week or so, but if you are patient, your shy kitten will turn in to a happy friendly cat that will enjoy being around you.
